About Sammie

Samantha is an extraordinary individual known for her unwavering determination and drive to break barriers and exceed expectations. From a young age, she has shown relentless dedication, making sacrifices to excel in various sports.

After being discovered by the National Windsurfing coach in 2017, Samantha shifted her focus to Olympic windsurfing and transitioned to wind foiling in 2020. Her achievements include five national titles, earning a wild card spot for the Professional Windsurfing Tour in 2022, and breaking a five-year selection drought by re-joining the Australian Sailing Squad in 2023. She also successfully qualified Australia for the 2024 Olympic Games before a car accident during the IQFoil World Championships side-lined her for the remainder of 2024.

As a self-funded athlete, Samantha has faced many challenges but continues to overcome them with resilience and determination. Guided by values of drive, trust, and respect, she remains committed to achieving her ultimate goal: winning Olympic Gold for Australia.

Now focused on competing at the 2028 Olympic Games, Samantha continues to inspire others with her journey. Outside of sailing, she maintains an active lifestyle through cycling, running, gym workouts, surfing, and swimming, while also pursuing a Bachelor's in Prosthetics and Orthotics.

  • "My immediate goal for 2025 is to return to competitive sailing after recovering from a shoulder injury. I aim to get back into international competitions and regain my competitive edge, focusing on:

    • Competing in Major Events: Participating in key regattas such as the Princesa Sofia Regatta in Palma, the SOF Olympic Week in Hyeres, the 2025 IQFoil World Championships in Aarhus, and the 2025 IQFoil European Championships.

    • Improving International Performance: Enhancing my performance to compete effectively against top international windsurfers and aiming for a strong showing, including targeting the Gold Fleet at the Princesa Sofia Regatta.

My long-term goal remains to elevate the profile of women's windsurfing in Australia. By demonstrating my commitment and success, I hope to inspire greater support for female windsurfers from our national sporting bodies and make the Olympic sailing pathway a compelling option for young girls.

Ultimately, I aim to see an Australian female windsurfer, potentially myself, achieving success at the 2028 and 2032 Olympic Games. My journey is driven by a passion for the sport and a desire to show the value of women's windsurfing, motivating future generations of girls to excel in this field."
